Description
This exhibition came about by chance. It was on the day when, having come to photograph life at the Léchiagat shipyard as part of the preparations for an exhibition on trades, the late Henri Camus discovered the panels on which the shipwrights wipe off the excess paint from their brushes, rollers and paintbrushes.
Surprised by these raw, intermingled colours, surprised by these collectively
crafted shapes, surprised by the interplay of flat areas and drips, surprised by the traces of enigmatic yet meaningful gestures, surprised by these creations—like little winks—which he had never seen in such numbers or with such variety in any of the ports stretching from Loctudy to Douarnenez.
From November 2017 to December 2020, he wandered around the dry dock area on numerous occasions, rummaging through every nook and cranny, photographing ‘daubed’ panels and surfaces to his heart’s content. This exhibition is therefore not really his own, despite the signature at the bottom of the prints. He is not the artist; he claims
no status other than that of a witness. A witness to a form of ephemeral art – whether individual or collective, deliberate or otherwise – to which he wished to contribute his own small part.
Free entry during the media centre’s opening hours.
