As part of Taol Kurun, Breton author and president of Etonnants Voyageurs Jean Michel Le Boulanger invites us to reflect on the praise of culture in times of crisis, cultural struggles in Brittany yesterday, today and tomorrow. Drawing on current events and three of his books: Éloge de la culture en temps de crise, Manifeste pour une France de la diversité, Mon pays dans le ciel, he argues in favour of a living culture.
Brittany is no stranger to fighting for respect for cultural diversity. And the Quimperlé region in particular! La Villemarqué and Brizeux, in the 19th century, illustrated the region; Glenmor, in the 20th century, lived here and Xavier Grall died here. These 4 figures are among the most prominent in Breton cultural history.
Brittany is also no stranger to fighting for creative freedom. And the abundance of musical vitality in Brittany today bears witness to this in an exemplary fashion.
Today, we urgently need to reaffirm that freedom of creation and the proliferation of cultural practices are key markers of our democracies. And there are still battles to be fought...
