Description
On 3 July 1822, Franz Schubert put pen to paper to write a short text, “Mein Traum” (My Dream), a symbolic portrayal of his inner turmoil. In it, he expresses his sense of not fitting in with social norms, his feeling of being different, his joy that is always tinged with sadness, and music – his sole consolation – through which he attempts to transform pain into beauty.
Echoing this text (recited by an actor), Nicolas Ellis conceives a sort of ‘transfigured symphony’ which, moving from lieder to symphonic movements (the Fifth and the Unfinished), takes us on a journey through the famous composer’s finest works. Some are gentle and dreamlike, others delirious or impetuous, but all are sublime.
Founded in 1989 and led by Nicolas Ellis since 2024, the Orchestre National de Bretagne has broken free from the barriers of genre, style or expression, whilst never neglecting its classical repertoire or its high standards.
