"Les petits graviers de Saint-Pierre", by Laurent Giraudineau
A Breton writer sets off to retrace the steps of his ancestor on the other side of the Atlantic. There he meets up with his son, a naturalist guide in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, and passes on to him the fruits of his investigations in Brittany. From Brest to Saint-Malo, he found photos, archive documents, a few texts and songs from the period, proof that their ancestor was one of those children who were sent to dry cod in the worst possible conditions. Tens of thousands of Breton children were treated like slaves for a century. Children sacrificed, then erased from the official history of the Great Newfoundland Fishery. Alexis Gloaguen goes beyond a family tribute to rescue them from oblivion.
Produced by Les productions CERCLE BLEU, in co-production with FTV and Internep. A film by Laurent Giraudineau
