Description
Marine Le Breton draws lines and dots by hand on sheets of paper, which together form maps, like graphic embroidery. Her work, which is as much a visual exploration as it is a human inquiry, focuses primarily on the fine boundary between land and water. This blurred boundary along the coastline sometimes even varies between the objective surveys carried out by the National Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM) and the National Institute for Geographic and Forest Information (IGN). Her approach is resolutely artistic, despite the constraint of having to adhere to scientific surveys. Through her drawings, she reveals the impermanence of our territory, where nothing is truly fixed and everything is subject to change. Thus, these nautical charts straddle the line between works of art and scientific surveys, inviting everyone on an inner journey and prompting reflection on territory, the environment and collective memory.
