Discover The Glénan archipelago with a dog

A trip to Les Glénan with a dog requires special preparation. Depending on his temperament and comfort level, he may restrict your movements or not feel totally at ease, particularly during the crossing, in the sunshine and when faced with restrictions on the beaches. Here is some useful information.

Departing from Port-La-Forêt

You can leave from Port-La Forêt (the La Forêt-Fouesnant marina) near the Kerleven campsite with several types of boat.

Types of boat

  • By speedboat. Different options are available, with varying lengths of sailing time. You should allow at least 1 hour 45 minutes to reach Les Glénan, and the same for the return trip. Day or afternoon trips.
  • In a monohull. Day trips are generally available, as the archipelago is around 20 km from the coast. A stopover is planned, but the sailing lasts around 6 hours (variable according to weather conditions…)
  • By large catamaran. Day trip with stopovers, but a lot of time spent on the boat.

Contact the companies/hire boats with or without skipper.

On site: the Glénan archipelago

  • Dogs are not allowed on the beaches from 1 June to 30 September.
  • The archipelago is made up of small islands and islets that are uninhabited all year round. It is above all a remarkable nature reserve, with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Visitors come here mainly for the beauty of the scenery, the beach, swimming and relaxation.
  • The island of Saint-Nicolas, where most of the boats dock, is very small, measuring around 800m x 400m. It has no trees and no shady areas. At the height of summer, the island can be very hot. There are a few second homes and two restaurants. It is possible to take a walk along the path, but the walk is very quick (45 minutes at a leisurely pace) due to the size of the island.
