As part of Heritage Days, the Château de Bélon, a listed Historic Monument, is opening its gardens to the public. This former hunting lodge was embellished with a white stone façade in the 18th century. Surrounding the manor house, the gardens are laid out in four terraces and extend southwards to the River Bélon. It was once the home of Auguste de Solminihac, founder of French oyster farming in 1864 under the auspices of the Collège de France, with the famous flat Bélon oyster. You can then also stop off at our traditional oyster farm, listed as a Historic Monument and a living heritage that has been in the family for 160 years; visit the eco-museum and enjoy a rustic tasting session overlooking the river and the maturing ponds. Treasure hunts for children: “In Search of the Golden Oyster”. Artists’ exhibition to coincide with the opening of the gardens Programme: - Saturday 19 September – guided tours of the oyster beds at 3.00 pm (€6 per person) + gardens open from 2 pm to 6 pm (free entry) - Sunday 20 September: gardens open from 2 pm to 6 pm (free entry)
