Description
The parish church dates back some 286 years (construction began in 1740).
Built in the shape of a Latin cross, it comprises a nave with three bays. The chancel features 24 stalls in the monastic style. It houses numerous ancient statues, such as Saint Corentin (a very old wooden figure), Saint Peter and Saint Paul in granite, and many other saints to discover.
The bell tower, standing 33 metres high, was completed in 1822 following a decision by the town council. The bell tower is flanked on either side by two turrets with their tops cut off. It was later fitted with two new bells and, in 1826, a mechanical clock.
The current flagstone flooring was laid in 1824/1825.
The vault: work on it was planned in 1828 and completed in 1830. It took three coats of paint and 399 stars scattered across it, but in 1995 a safety commission forced the local council to demolish the vault (due to its lack of structural integrity) and rebuild it.
The large stained-glass window in the choir dates from 1910 and depicts the coronation of the Virgin Mary by her son.
The vault above the high altar is highlighted by a fresco depicting the apparition of the Sacred Heart, implored by the Virgin Mary on her knees, alongside Joan of Arc kneeling and holding the banner; it was painted in 1909.
