Description

In 2021, the photographer Lévénès de Cléden embarked on a journey through historic Brittany to explore Breton traditional dress and the people who wear it. He creates photographic portraits inspired by classical painting. A unique blend of composition and colour theory, reminiscent of painting, is combined with contemporary photographic techniques, creating a visual and temporal ambiguity. From Poher to Cap Sizun, from the banks of the Rance to the Aven region, each costume, dating from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, has been collected, restored or meticulously reconstructed. Thanks to QR codes, each photograph is accompanied by narratives, archive videos or photographs, providing further insight into the history of the costume as well as the person pictured. Lévénès de Cléden has taken portraits of two dancers from Fouesnant and their costumes. These photographs will be shown for the first time at this exhibition.
