Thursdays: In the footsteps of Pierre Loti - Rosporden church with Monique Talec.
Born in Rochefort in 1850, Pierre Loti, whose real name was Julien Viaud, was a naval officer, traveller and writer.
traveller and writer. He published a long series of novels from 1879 onwards, including Mon frère Yves (1883) and Pêcheur d'Islande
(1886), set at sea and in Brittany, followed by travelogues. He was admitted to the Académie Française in 1892 and
international renown. He died in Hendaye on 10 June 1923.
From 1878 onwards, Julien Viaud, Pierre Loti in literature, frequented Rosporden where his sailor friend, Pierre Le Cor, had married Marie Anne Le Doeuff. Godfather to their son Julien, Loti recounts in his novel Mon frère Yves the christening
the christening, festivals and customs of Toulven (Rosporden).
This walk will take you to the old church of Notre-Dame,
the ponds, the railway, the squares and finally the house where the author had his bedroom.
