Thursdays: In the footsteps of Pierre Loti - Chapelle de Bonne Nouvelle (Melgven) with Monique Talec
Born in Rochefort in 1850, Pierre Loti, whose real name was Julien Viaud, was a naval officer, traveller and writer.
traveller and writer. He published a long series of novels from 1879 onwards, including Mon frère Yves (1883) and Pêcheur d'Islande
(1886), set at sea and in Brittany, followed by travelogues. He was admitted to the Académie Française in 1892 and
international renown. He died in Hendaye on 10 June 1923.
Every year in August, the writer would go to the pardon of N.D. de Bonne Nouvelle, attended by crowds of rural people and sailors. My brother Yves will take us back to this great festival.
We'll visit the chapel and then follow the paths he used to take to the old manor house at Coat-Canton, from where we'll take a break and return to the chapel.
