Description

To mark European Heritage Days, Saint-Maurice Abbey is opening its doors from 11am to 7pm for a weekend of discovery, encounters and sharing. Combining heritage, nature and contemporary creativity, come and explore this exceptional site through a free programme celebrating the men and women who contribute daily to its preservation and promotion: artists, craftspeople, producers and coastguards. Exhibitions, tastings, demonstrations and guided tours will punctuate these two days, to the delight of young and old alike. Exhibition – Entaille | Yves Tilly, sculptor The artist Yves Tilly presents Entaille, a series of sculptures created from pieces of wood sourced from trees felled on the Rhuys peninsula, where his studio is located. Working with wood that is still green, he carves into it before drying and the loss of sap alter its shape. Each piece thus tells a unique story, intimately linked to the life of the tree and its transformation. Dry stone: heritage craftsmanship in action Exhibition at the heart of the restoration site Following a skills-based training course held on-site with the Association of Dry Stone Builders, discover the restoration work carried out and the techniques employed. This exhibition invites you to understand the principles of dry stone construction, the challenges of passing on this recognised craft, and the importance of keeping this heritage sector alive today. The Laïta vintage: Meet the makers and enjoy a tasting with Les Bouteilles à l’Amer From 2pm on Saturday and Sunday A partner in promoting apples from the Saint-Maurice orchard since 2024, the micro-cidery Les Bouteilles à l’Amer invites you to discover the Laïta single-vineyard cuvée. Through a session of discussion and tasting, discover the different stages of this cider’s production and the artisanal expertise that brings out the full richness of the Laïta Valley terroir. Quick tours – Behind the scenes at a site in motion Departures every hour Throughout the day, the coastal rangers will guide you on a tour of the site, exploring its history, landscapes and the conservation work being carried out. These short tours, suitable for all, offer a unique insight into the many people involved in the life of the abbey and its natural estate.
