Description
The European Heritage Days, held every September since 1984, were established on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. Their aim is to enable as many people as possible to discover the richness of our heritage through visits to sites that are usually closed to the public or presented from a different perspective. These days are eagerly awaited by visitors, who take the opportunity to step inside a wide variety of buildings: places of worship, administrative and military buildings, and private properties.
To complement these exceptional visits, a range of activities are on offer: guided tours, workshops, exhibitions…
This year in Fouesnant, the range of visits on offer has been expanded, and five sites will be welcoming visitors: the Semaphore, Saint-Pierre Church, the Bréhoulou blockhouse, the Village Club du Soleil, Kerbader Chapel and the Archipel, a cultural centre.
On the programme for these two days:
- Beg-Meil Semaphore:
Built around 1861, the Beg-Meil semaphore station monitors an area stretching from the Lesconil headland to the Trévignon headland, encompassing the Glénan archipelago. Its location is exceptional. It is open to the public as part of the European Heritage Days.

- Bréhoulou Blockhouse:
Bréhoulou High School houses a blockhouse dating from the Second World War, which served as an infirmary shelter. In the 1950s, secondary school pupils made it their home.
An unusual venue for a tour combining local history with wider historical context.

- Church of Saints Peter and Paul:
A Romanesque church with a Gothic porch, listed as a historic monument, it catches the eye with its majestic façade, bell tower and remarkable stained-glass windows. It also boasts exceptional acoustics.

- Village Club du Soleil:
A world of curves, bubbles and gleaming white concrete, this private property was designed by the avant-garde architects Henri Mouette and Pierre Székely, who drew inspiration from the sea and the underwater world.
In 2007, the Village Club was awarded the 20th-Century Heritage label.

Discover the chapel and its surroundings in a new light through creative workshops: sketching, cyanotypes and prints.
Linked to the themes ‘Photographic Heritage’ and ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’, this event invites everyone to create, experiment and contribute to a collective visual memory.
A friendly, artistic experience, open to all, led by Hélène Camus, a professional artist and art, culture and heritage educator.

- Exhibition ‘ON THE ROAD TO CLÉDEN-POHER’ – PHOTOGRAPHS BY LÉVÉNÈS DE CLÉDEN
at L’ARCHIPEL, Fouesnant town centre
In 2021, photographer Lévénès de Cléden embarked on a journey through historic Brittany to explore Breton traditional dress
and the people who wear it. He created photographic portraits inspired by classical painting. A unique blend of composition and colour theory, reminiscent of painting, is combined with contemporary photographic techniques, creating a visual and temporal ambiguity.

- Concert by the PÊR VARI KERVAREC Trio at the Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church in Fouesnant town centre
Concert by the Pêr-Vari Kervarec Trio: ‘The Heritage of Brittany’.
This new show goes beyond the traditional concert to offer a truly musical, poetic and human journey through Brittany. The bombarde, vocals, bagpipes, biniou kozh, low whistle, piano and organ make up the show’s soundscape. The texts link the various pieces together and give the whole performance a narrative dimension.
