Nobody suspects Gloria. She gets up at 5.30 every morning. She lives with José, who looks down on her. She does the housework for Madame Paule, who looks down on her. So, to take her mind off things, she smokes one cigarette after another, listens to the same songs by Daniel Balavoine, Lou Reed and Britney Spears on repeat, and calls her best friend Rita. One day, for no apparent reason, Gloria shatters this daily routine. She lets it all go. Rita then retraces the last twenty-four hours to understand how Gloria could have ended up like this.
“Gloria Gloria” by Marcos Caramés-Blanco tells the story of a chaotic and violent emancipation. An ambiguous character, a victim crushed by patriarchal and bourgeois oppression, Gloria becomes the oppressor. She breaks free and acts on her desires.
