Loctudy is celebrating its maritime identity at the brand-new Loctudy Maritime Festival.
This event follows on from the traditional Fête Nautique with a renewed ambition: to showcase maritime professions, maritime rescue services and the skills that shape the identity of Loctudy, an iconic fishing port on the Breton coast.
Another new feature of this year’s event is that the festivities will take place on Quai Rémy Le Lay, right at the heart of the fishing port. It is the ideal setting to immerse visitors in the maritime world that has shaped Loctudy’s history and economy.
From early afternoon onwards, young and old alike will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities and experiences centred on maritime professions.
As a key partner in local maritime life, the SNSM will take centre stage, with the special appearance of a fleet of six rescue boats from Loctudy and neighbouring stations.
The public will be able to visit the boats, discover the rescue equipment used during operations, chat with the volunteer lifeguards and watch various demonstrations. Sea trips may also be offered, weather permitting.
Organised in partnership with the Interprofessionnelle de Loctudy, this event will provide a better understanding of the diversity of professions that keep the port alive on a daily basis.
Longliners, gillnet fishermen, dredgers, trap fishermen, trawlermen, fish wholesalers, mussel farmers and seaweed farmers will share their passion and expertise with the public. Tours of fishing boats and the Loctudy fish tanks will round off this immersive experience at the heart of the local maritime industry.
Craftsmen, exhibitions, demonstrations, fun activities and children’s events will punctuate this day dedicated to discovery and sharing.
Music will accompany visitors throughout the day.
The Brazilian percussion group BATUKALOC will bring their infectious rhythms and infectious energy before handing over to Les GODILLEURS. With their sea shanties, traditional instruments and a repertoire inspired by maritime heritage, they will bring back to life the warm atmosphere of the harbour festivals of yesteryear.
From 7.30 pm, the Maritime Festival will take on a new dimension with an eclectic and high-quality musical programme.
The band MZH PROJECT will take the audience on a musical journey through the decades, skilfully revisiting the great hits that have marked several generations.
Then comes one of the highlights of this year’s festival: GWENNYN’s concert. A leading figure on the contemporary Breton music scene, the artist has established herself over the years as one of the leading voices in modern Celtic music. Driven by a strong and authentic artistic identity, she elegantly blends Breton tradition with modernity in powerful and inspired compositions. Accompanied by her musicians, GWENNYN will deliver a performance rich in emotion, blending energy, poetry and a deep attachment to Breton culture. An artist renowned far beyond Brittany, whose stage performances are captivating an ever-wider audience.
To round off this day of festivities, a grand fireworks display will be set off from the sea. Sponsored by the towns of Loctudy and Île-Tudy, this pyrotechnic spectacle will light up the bay and bring this celebration of the local maritime heritage to a spectacular close.
