Description
Illumination is a medieval pictorial book art that developed over the course of the Middle Ages in different styles depending on the period. It began in the Merovingian period with a few painted lettrines and reached its apogee in the Gothic period, in the form of veritable small paintings of manuscripts. Illumination is none other than the ancestor of the comic strip and illustration, and the refined, sober style of the 13th century echoes our contemporary graphics. In 2010, Marie-Andrée Thibault changed her life and enrolled at ISEEM in Angers, the only school of book illumination in France. She was awarded the title of Enlumineure de France in September 2012, and spent 4 months as a medieval graphic designer at ISEEM in 2013. Since then, she has regularly taken part in exhibitions, painting shows and antiquarian book fairs in and around Angers, in the Cévennes, the Vendée and Finistère.
