The ‘landscape theatre’ practised by the writer and director Alexandre Koutchevsky draws on the poetic and theatrical power of open-air performances. The plays are written and directed for and by the landscape. With his team of regular actors, he sets up in a bunker to evoke the Second World War (Blockhaus, performed in 2014, 2015 and 2018 in Mousterlin), in a woodland to explore identity (Ça s’écrit T-C-H in 2017 in Kerbader) or by the sea to address the transatlantic slave trade (Rivages in 2021 in Beg-Meil).
Over twenty years of outdoor productions, they have regularly performed on slopes of all kinds. They have experimented with ways of working with these slopes, without – until now – making them a subject of focus in their own right.
In *En Pente*, the slope becomes a subject in its own right, an object of exploration that is at once poetic, playful and reflective. Climbing, scrambling, descending, rolling, sliding, ascending, falling, hurtling down… Confronting a slope is an almost childlike physical experience. Here, the slope is also a source of reflections and poetic, scientific and historical concepts (the conquest of peaks, gravity, religion…).
