Description
The bookshop will be hosting Armel Morgant for a book signing of the catalogue for the exhibition on display at Triskell until mid-August: *Le Minor, broderie d’art* (published by Locus Sous)
Trailer: From church banners to artistic tapestries, Le Minor has honoured some of the 20th century’s greatest artists, creating a unique heritage of embroidery. The author: Armel Morgant has been publishing reference works on the music and arts of Brittany for over twenty years. Notably with Locus Solus: *Toulhoat, l’œuvre de métal* (2019), and *Jim Sévellec, l’esprit du pays* (2023). He has published in-depth articles in *ArMen* and compiled musical anthologies on Breton and Celtic musical heritage. In 2012, he authored a comprehensive monograph on the embroidery house Le Minor (now out of print).
The book: Active from the 1930s to the present day, Le Minor has made a name for itself in the textile and decorative arts. Renowned for its folk dolls and ready-to-wear garments (the famous ‘kabig’), it was also through its printed scarves that the brand gained popularity beyond its native Bigouden region. This book recounts how, through artistic embroidery, the embroiderers at the Pontl’Abbé-based company have truly created a legacy. For great artists of the 20th century designed church banners, tapestry panels, decorated priestly vestments and prestigious tablecloths for her: Pierre Toulhoat, Dom Robert, Bruno Le Floc’h… Whether displayed on the Day of Forgiveness like the banners, or adorning public and municipal buildings, these pieces are genuine works of art. 80 illustrations, featuring detailed views of the finest embroidery and commentary on the artists.
