The great fisheries series
Through the stories of exceptional fishermen, from the icy waters of the far north to the shores of Mauritania, this series of lectures will plunge you into the bygone world of the great fisheries. Shipowners, traders, crews... discover the men and women, the routes and the challenges that shaped this maritime epic. These are invitations to explore little-known but essential aspects of maritime history and port memory.
A campaign aboard a trawler by photographer Jean-Paul Mathelier.
Thanks to the Friends of the Museum, the Musée de la Pêche has recently enriched its collections with a selection of photographs by the photographer Jean-Paul Mathelier, a privileged witness to the maritime world. In November 1970, he embarked on a trip to Southern Ireland aboard a traditional trawler from Concarneau.
His photographs sensitively capture the life of Breton sailors, between everyday gestures and suspended moments. In July 1972, he continued his immersion on board a tuna boat with live bait, always faithful to his committed and poetic approach.
Come and discover this photographic adventure and discuss his experience as a photographer on board.
