Lecture: ‘Stories of Lighthouses: The Mythical Figure of the Lighthouse Keeper at Sea’ Hosted by Vincent Guigueno, historian and maritime culture and heritage adviser, and François Géraud (aka @gardien2phare), content producer and enthusiast of lighthouse history. This lecture explores the development of the myth of the lighthouse keeper at sea, from its emergence in the early 20th century to the disappearance of the profession, and shows how automation has heightened the fascination with lighthouses. It also examines the place of this imagery today and invites you to discover a history of lighthouses that continues well beyond the end of the lighthouse keepers’ era.
