Description
Roxane Chalard and Chloé Ducray
The Chimères duo take the audience on a journey through a century of French mélodie, where the poetry of words meets the poetry of sound, in a dazzling tapestry where tenderness, melancholy, joy and mysticism interplay delightfully.
Throughout the programme, the verses of Verlaine, Apollinaire, Gautier, Vilmorin and Prévert are set to the rich tapestry of French melody, ranging from its romantic flights to its most modern tones.
The concert unfolds like a gallery of paintings, each revealing a new nuance: Gounod’s youthful vigour, Fauré’s grace, Debussy’s diaphanous sensuality, Hahn’s tender nostalgia, Poulenc’s free and incisive spirit, Kosma’s deeply moving simplicity, and Ferré’s fervour.
Underlying it all is the spirit of Verlaine’s *Art poétique*, from which Hahn took these words as an epigraph for the
*Chansons grises*:
“Nothing is dearer than the grey song
Where the Indecisive joins the Precise”
