Description

Traversées: young Europeans in search of shared musical horizons Between baroque heritage, popular traditions and contemporary creation, a unique project brings cultures and generations together in dialogue. It's an artistic adventure that crosses borders as much as it shakes up eras. Traversées brings together young German musicians and three professional French artists with a common goal: to invent, together, a new way of making and thinking about music today. At the heart of this European project is a simple but ambitious idea: to explore what circulates between styles, territories and imaginations. From the baroque energy of Antonio Vivaldi to Celtic traditions and contemporary writing, the performers construct a hybrid artistic language, nourished by multiple influences. Conducted by Ensemble PTYX in partnership with the Barockorchester Lahr, conducted by Annabelle Cavalli, Traversées unfolds through residencies, workshops and concerts across Europe. More than just a musical programme, it's a truly collective experience, where heritage and creation intertwine to bring out a contemporary artistic voice. A dialogue between three musical worlds The project is built around three complementary aesthetics. Firstly, the baroque repertoire forms the basis of the heritage. Vivaldi's works are approached from a historically informed perspective, enabling young performers to immerse themselves in ancient performance practices while at the same time reinventing them. This is complemented by in-depth work on Celtic music, particularly from Brittany and Ireland. Oral transmission, modality, collective rhythms and links with dance all contribute to a lively, embodied approach to music. Finally, contemporary creation weaves links between these materials. Directed improvisation, collective writing and staging open up a field of experimentation in which young musicians become fully involved in the artistic process. A teaching approach based on inclusion and creativity Founded in 2016 at Lahr Conservatory, the BarockOrchester Lahr embodies an open and inclusive vision of musical practice. Led by Annabelle Cavalli, the ensemble brings together musicians aged between 10 and 25, of all levels, playing both string and wind instruments. True to its motto - "music adapts to musicians, not the other way round" - the orchestra develops tailor-made arrangements, adapted to the abilities and desires of each individual. Inspired by the concerto grosso model, it plays on the contrasts between concertino and tutti, while integrating recorders and modern instruments in a historically informed approach. As well as the music, the project encourages human encounters: intensive rehearsals, intercultural exchanges and collaborations with professional artists - notably from the Freiburger Barockorchester - help to create a genuine space for sharing. PTYX, a committed player in contemporary creation Based in the Centre-Val de Loire region, Ensemble PTYX has been developing an artistic approach deeply rooted in transmission and experimentation since 2007. Comprising around twenty musicians and educators, it offers a wide range of activities, including concerts, workshops, conferences and participatory projects. With nearly 400 concerts and more than 100 premieres to its credit, PTYX defends a decompartmentalised vision of contemporary music, open to all aesthetics - from the avant-garde to improvisation and hybrid forms. Firmly rooted in its local roots, the ensemble is also committed to diversity and parity, while seeking to reach audiences far removed from traditional performance circuits. An artistic and human journey By bringing together young performers and established artists, tradition and modernity, Traversées offers much more than a musical project: it's a co-creative experience in which everyone has their place. At a time when cultural Europe is looking for new narratives, this initiative sketches out a sensitive and collective response. It's an invitation to listen differently, to create together, and to make music a living space for dialogue between generations and cultures.
