Description
In collaboration with the ‘Mémoires et Photos de Moëlan’ association
The walk takes us in the footsteps of the painters who immortalised Brigneau.
Henry Moret and Émile Jourdan, friends of Paul Gauguin, were the first to depict Brigneau and its surroundings. Émile Jourdan painted a series of pictures there of sardine fishermen in the harbour, as well as seaweed gatherers.
Maurice Asselin, who discovered Brittany in 1905, made Brigneau his home base, and his praise of the place in Montmartre encouraged painters such as Jacques Vaillant, as well as writers such as Pierre Mac Orlan, to join him there. The Auberge de la Mère Bacon, above the Malachappe sea wall, served as a meeting place for these artists of all kinds.
You’ll hear all about the artistic life of the time whilst looking out over the landscapes that inspired these famous painters and viewing reproductions of their paintings.
