With its 2,263 km of coastline, Finistère is resolutely ocean-facing. La Forêt-Fouesnant is no exception, with 3 coves, 2 harbours and 2 fish ponds! Fish ponds are businesses with water basins in which shellfish and crustaceans are stored.
Shellfish farms
No less than 15 hectares of shellfish beds line the bottom of the Penfoulic cove. With the rhythm of the tides, the shellfish benefit from optimal water quality to develop. Rich in phytoplankton – microscopic plants naturally present in seawater – cockles, clams and oysters benefit from an ideal environment in which to grow.
