Four women of a certain age have chosen to take up residence in a boarding house by the sea, where they have retreated to await the arrival of uncertain good weather. They have become accustomed to mixing their real and supposed pasts, lying with humour or seriousness in mock battles where they know the stakes are too low... .... A fifth arrives and disrupts their daily lives, leading them to the "end of the season".
