Right from “End & Start Again”, his first single released in 2003, Jonathan Morali’s haunting voice – as if from another era – revealed an artist in a class of his own. Four albums followed between 2004 and 2011, which left their mark on a generation of music lovers. Drawing equally on the songwriting of the 1960s, the breadth and freedom of the 1970s and contemporary synthetic sounds, Syd Matters has developed a unique musical world, somewhere between folk and melancholic pop. On stage, accompanied by his band, his music – lush and spectacular in a live setting – loses none of its core essence and even gains in depth.
In recent years, he has kept a lower profile but remains as prolific as ever, now writing for film, theatre, radio, television and video games. In 2026, Syd Matters is making a major comeback with a new album, followed by a tour across France and Europe. He performs his new songs as well as a few old favourites that long-time fans will be delighted to hear again.
