Saint Nonna, a disciple of Saint Dewi, the patron saint of Wales, is said to have been bishop of Armagh in Hibernia (the name of Ireland at the time) in the 6th century, before crossing the English Channel in a stone vessel (a frequent occurrence at the time) to lead a life of meditation in Armorica, present-day Brittany. This stone vessel (a hemispherical stele with cupules from the Iron Age, placed around fifty metres from the chapel enclosure) is said to be located around fifty metres from the Saint-Vio chapel in Tréguennec in the Pays Bigouden region of Brittany.
