Celebration and procession.
Madeleine, called Mary the Magdalene in the Gospels, was a disciple of Jesus who followed him to his last days, witnessed his Resurrection and gave birth to an important figure in Christianity. She is mentioned at least twelve times in the four canonical Gospels, more than most of the apostles. The Gospel according to John, written around 90-95 at the earliest, makes her the first person to see Jesus after his Resurrection, charged with warning the apostles. This motif is repeated in an ending added in the 4th century to the Gospel according to Mark.
