Autumn is mushroom season. Porcini, petits rosés, coulemelles and other coprins are hunted down by mushroom lovers. The amanita, much less so. It may try to seduce with its red colouring and white polka dots, but it is legitimately worrying and its reputation is well established. Deadly, no less!
L'Amanite is Isabelle Lemay and accordionist Phil Guyard. And when these two get down to it, in the words of Gilbert Bécaud, "you'd have to have two wooden legs not to dance the java! The audience quickly gets into the mood. "Come on Phil, let's start with Le Pt'it vin blanc, just to warm up my voice". The entire repertoire of the inter-war period, from piano à bretelle to bal musette, is covered. And Isabelle's warm voice, half Fréhel half Gréco, unfurls a repertoire that is in fact a veritable catalogue of emotions. From insouciance to unbridled joy, from heartbreak, from the blues of the battered wife, then alone with her children, to the little dramas of everyday life.
Isa at the microphone, Phil on accordion: these two are on the same wavelength: "Our credo is friendship, mates, sincerity...". Virtues that obviously don't go to waste!
Come on, give us that again. An amanite and a little rosé. After all, it's summer!
