Jeanne Nabert was born on 4 March 1883 in Pont-Croix and was buried in her home town in 1969. The daughter of Dr Néis, she wrote her first poems at the age of twelve. In 1908, she was awarded a prize by the Académie Française and married Jean Nabert.

A writer of poems, plays and novels at a time when literature was not very open to women, Jeanne Nabert reflected the mores of her time. As a free woman, she courageously stood up against injustice, denouncing social and religious hypocrisy, as well as selfishness.

From her childhood, Jeanne Nabert retains a taste for Brittany, Finistère and her home town of Cap Sizun. Her three novels, Le cavalier de la mer, Les Termagies and L'îlienne, are set in her familiar landscapes and draw on her childhood observations.
