Long isolated in the woods, the wild boar has been proliferating for several decades (23 times more wild boars in 50 years). Its demographic explosion, accompanied by devastation of crops and road and rail crossings, has altered its aura as a representative of wild fauna, whose dark silhouette once frequented the forests and haunted people's imaginations just as much. What should we do about wild boar? They can be found at the gates of towns and cities, but they are always formidable when it comes to fighting back when they are dislodged. Should they be contained in reserved areas, and if so, will this be possible? What do we mean by regulating their population? Here the role and numbers of hunters come into play. Isn't the DNA of wild fauna to escape limits? What do we know about its lifestyle, its territory, its "herbivore" or "carnivore" temperament, its relationship with other species, starting with us humans?
People talk about wild boar with emotion, powerlessness, anger... So we thought it would be useful to hear everyone's views on this "new neighbour" that is now venturing into our midst.
The Culture & patrimoine association is inviting representatives of the institutions concerned, hunting federations, the French Office for Biodiversity and local players, including a vet, to this meeting and debate, to share their experience and testimonies. Today, the wild boar has become a social problem because of this disruption in the balance of life; in this respect, it is our habits and the way we look at the territory that are changing. Three years ago, we organised a debate on the wolf.
Come one, come all to this conference, which will exceptionally feature 7 speakers.
Admission is free.
Dates to remember: Friday 13 March, General Meeting of the Culture & patrimoine association at 6pm at the association's premises, la Maison aux volets jaunes, place du Gannaec Esquibien - Audierne. All welcome!
