In 2026, the Département of Finistère is once again teaming up with the Ensemble Matheus, led by conductor Jean-Christophe SPINOSI, to offer a major musical tour of 18 towns in the region between January and June 2026.
ENSEMBLE MATHEUS X DEPARTEMENT DU FINISTERE
Rooted in Finistère since its creation in 1991, Ensemble Matheus performs both internationally and in France. Jean-Christophe SPINOSI, the emblematic conductor of Ensemble Matheus, has always been keen to make classical music accessible to as many people as possible.
Building on the success of the first tour in 2025, the Department wanted to team up with Ensemble Matheus again in 2026 to organise a cultural event open to all, with 3 objectives:
- to offer Finisterians high-quality concerts that are accessible to all ;
- to raise awareness of classical music among secondary school pupils through artistic and cultural education initiatives;
- to showcase Finistère's architectural heritage by organising concerts in churches.
AN ECLECTIC AND DEMANDING PROGRAMME
The Department of Finistère has decided to organise a musical tour of 18 concerts between January and June 2026 in churches throughout the region, so that as many people as possible can attend. These concerts are open to the general public, with prices ranging from free for under-15s, €10 for 15-18s, €13 for jobseekers and disabled people, to €18 for the full price. There is a €15 ticket price for two parents whose child has taken part in the educational action (€13 for single parents). Tickets can be purchased at the venue or online via the Ensemble Matheus website.
Ensemble Matheus offers two musical programmes in a series of concerts combining virtuosity, emotion and discovery.
Vivaldi's Four Seasons
Works: The Four Seasons, Laudate Pueri - Antonio Vivaldi (13 musicians, including a soprano)
The Heroines of the Opera
Works by Handel, Rameau, Vivaldi and Charpentier (9 musicians, including a soprano)
AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME BASED AROUND CLASSICAL MUSIC
Before each concert, the musicians will visit a secondary school in the host town. These educational sessions during school time will give 6th form pupils from public and private secondary schools an opportunity to talk to the musicians, find out about the profession of professional musician, and study a classical work of music that they can come and listen to that evening with their families at a preferential rate: €15 for two parents or €13 if the parent is alone.
In 2025, nearly 1,750 pupils from 25 secondary schools were able to attend one of these educational sessions.
